    Exchange Member

    An Exchange Member means an entity that has entered into an Exchange Membership Agreement with Nasdaq Oslo ASA. An Exchange Membership requires a Clearing Membership or a Clearing Account with a General Clearing Member (GCM). The member is granted direct access to exchange trading electronically and/or voice.

    Non-Clearing Member

    A Non-Clearing Member (NCM) is an Exchange Member that has entered into a Non-Clearing Membership Agreement with Nasdaq Oslo ASA. A Non-Clearing Membership requires a Clearing Account with a General Clearing Member (GCM). The member is granted direct access to exchange trading electronically and/or voice.

    General Clearing Member

    A General Clearing Member (GCM) is an entity that has been approved by the clearing house for clearing of principal transactions and client transactions on behalf of GCM clients e.g. Non-Clearing Members. Learn more about the GCM Model

    Clearing Member

    A Clearing Member (CM) is an entity that has been approved by the clearing house for clearing of principal transactions.

    Direct Clearing Agent

    A Direct Clearing Agent (DCA) represents Direct Clearing Clients (DCC) in respect of trading.

    Direct Clearing Client

    A Direct Clearing Client (DCC) means an entity that has been approved by the clearing house to have transactions subject to clearing through a Direct Clearing Agent, for registration in a Direct Clearing Account where the Direct Clearing Client is account holder. A Direct Clearing Client is not a member of the exchange, but trades through a Direct Clearing Agent. The Direct Clearing Client gets its own settlement and post collateral by itself.

    Block Broker Member

    A Block Broker Member means an entity that has entered into a Block Broker Membership Agreement with Nasdaq Oslo ASA. A Block Broker is an approved Exchange Member authorized to report block trades and EFP/EFS trades to the exchange.

    How to Become a Member

    Nasdaq Commodities has around 250 members from more than 20 countries. The members include energy producers, energy intensive industries, large consumers, distributors, funds, investment companies, banks, brokers, utility companies and financial institutions. By becoming a member, you get access to the trading and clearing services defined for the membership type you have selected.

    To provide a login for the Nasdaq Commodities application portal we need a signed appointment form. The appointment form will be sent to you by our sales team. 
    The appointment form must be signed by a person authorized to sign for your company. Attach documentation which validates due authorization, plus a list of signatories with signature samples of the signing person(s) and/or copies of official ID of the signing person(s) (passport, national ID etc.).
    Send the appointment form with attachments to salescommodities@nasdaq.com.

    Once you have your login you can access the Member Portal where you will be able to submit your membership Application. 

    The application and all supporting documents (except Annual reports which are accepted in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish languages) must be provided in English language. In case of translations, both the original and translated versions have to be provided (the translations must be official and in-house translations are not accepted):

    1.    Annual report for the previous 2 years (signed by Auditor)
    2.    Interim Report (if existing)
    3.    Articles of Association
    4.    Copy of the company’s Certificate of Incorporation (max 2 months old)
    5.    Clear description of the ownership structure (if not included in the application or annual report)
    6.    Documentation evidencing due authorization of the signing person(s) to sign on behalf of the relevant legal entity
    7.    A list of signatories with signature samples of the signing person(s) and/or copies of official ID of the signing person(s) 
           (passport, national ID etc.)
    8.    If GCM or DCA – copy of relevant authorizations that allows applicant to have clients

    Depending on which membership you are applying for, different forms need to be completed in the Member Portal:

    Make sure you discuss your market access setup and account structure with your Nasdaq Membership Coordinator. The structure can then be verified in a test environment before going live.

    For conformance test of software used towards Nasdaq, please contact Technical Support to arrange for testing.

    Once your membership application has been processed, you can access your agreement package through the Member Portal. Complete the forms and sign the Member Agreement.

    Trading and clearing can start when all agreements and forms have been approved by Nasdaq, technical access has been established and a start date has been agreed.
