Level-Up your Retail Trading with Depth Data

Active retail investors in the U.S. equities market are demanding access to more granular information. Bring your investing decisions to the next level with depth-of-book data.

    Market Data Empowers Investment Decisions

When much of the world entered lockdown at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, an unexpected phenomenon began to take shape on Wall Street. The “rise of retail” was a moniker that emerged during this period to describe the unprecedented entrance of new retail participants into the stock market.

Whether you're new to investing, or you've been trading for years, one truth remains consistent: the depth of your insights often determines the depth of your success. To effectively trade, now more than ever, you need access to depth data.

    Understanding Depth-of-Book

To understand depth data, you have to first understand top-of-book data, also known as Level I data. This data provides basic price information about a security.

Once you have an understanding of Level 1, you can start to look at depth-of-book data. Sometimes called Level II data, depth-of-book refers to the full robustness of an order book. It's a comprehensive view of all trading activity, providing every quote on the book so that you can get insight into the true supply and demand for a particular security.
