UiPath Appoints Dr. Oren Etzioni to Chair New Artificial Intelligence Advisory Board
Board’s research will help develop the next wave of transformational technologies at the intersection of automation and artificial intelligence
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- UiPath (NYSE: PATH), a leading enterprise automation software company, today announced the appointment of Dr. Oren Etzioni to chair its new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Board. The Advisory Board, to be comprised of AI leaders and experts from academia, the technology industry, and the ethics community, will help foster the UiPath AI Research and Incubation function focused on research in machine learning (ML) and AI investments. The goal of the research is to help develop the next wave of transformational technologies at the intersection of automation and AI.
Dr. Oren Etzioni has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Allen Institute for AI (AI2) since its inception in 2014. He is Professor Emeritus, University of Washington as of October 2020 and a Venture Partner at the Madrona Venture Group since 2000. He has founded or co-founded several companies, including Farecast (acquired by Microsoft) and has authored 100-plus technical papers on AI – helping to pioneer meta-search, online comparison shopping, machine reading, and Open Information Extraction. He was Seattle’s 2013 Geek of the Year.
“AI is poised to play an increasingly large role in societies across the world. Accordingly, there is a growing interest in ensuring that it is used in a responsible and beneficial manner. A range of perspectives and contributions are needed, spanning the full spectrum from fundamental research to sustained deployments,” said Dr. Oren Etzioni. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to chair this important initiative for UiPath to help ensure human-centered automation methods are deployed to establish ethical, inclusive, and accountable AI systems.”
The AI Advisory Board will also provide guidance to UiPath on investments to advance trustworthy, explainable, and ethical AI – challenges particularly prominent for fostering collaborative human-AI relationships. Working with the Advisory Board, UiPath plans to expand its practical guidance on managing ethical questions as customers deploy its automation and AI technologies into the workplace to work with, and alongside, humans.
“Oren’s experience will be of huge value to our plans as we scale the types of use cases customers can address by adding AI to their automation,” said Ted Kummert, Executive Vice President for Products & Engineering at UiPath. “He shares our vision and enthusiasm for the exciting possibilities in the field of AI and automation and we’re thrilled to have him chairing this Advisory Board.”
