Why Credo's New 1.6T Optics Matter to Its $600 Million Optical Push

Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd CRDO launched a new family of 224G-based ZeroFlap (ZF) optical transceivers on last Tuesday, extending its optical architecture to 1.6T port speeds.

The timing matters because optics are becoming a larger part of Credo’s fiscal 2027 growth plan. Management expects more than $600 million in optical revenues in fiscal 2027, making execution on new 1.6T products an important test of that expansion.

Credo’s New ZF Optics Push Into 1.6T

The new transceivers combine Credo’s 224G-per-lane optical digital signal processor with the Kfir200 silicon photonics PIC and its latest-generation PILOT diagnostics platform.

The family includes 2xDR4, 2xFR4 and DR8 configurations. The products support a range of AI scale-out interconnect architectures at 1.6T port speeds.

CRDO’s Optical Stack Is Becoming More Integrated

Credo’s May acquisition of DustPhotonics brought silicon photonics capabilities in-house, adding another piece to a portfolio that already includes optical digital signal processors and ZF transceivers. That combination broadens the company’s optical stack across the interconnect chain.

The 1.6T market is drawing investment from peers. Marvell Technology, Inc. MRVL expanded its 1.6T optical DSP portfolio in March. Broadcom Inc. AVGO made a 3-nanometer 400G-per-lane optical DSP available in March for 1.6T transceiver solutions.

Credo’s Fiscal 2027 Optical Target Sets the Stakes

Management projects more than $600 million in fiscal 2027 optical revenues. ZF optics, silicon photonics PICs and optical DSPs are each expected to contribute more than $100 million.

The target spans several product lines. Credo recorded its first silicon photonics revenues in the fiscal first quarter, and its optical digital signal processor business generated record revenues during the period.

CRDO’s Customer Ramps Are the Key Revenue Test

ZF optics are already in production shipments. Management expects additional fiscal 2027 customer ramps across both 800G and 1.6T products involving hyperscalers and NeoCloud operators.

Credo also expects its first 1.6T optical DSP revenues later in fiscal 2027. Those milestones will provide evidence of whether new products are translating into a broader optical revenue contribution.

Credo’s Mix and Spending Risks Could Rise With Optics

A larger optical contribution adds another growth engine, but it can also increase product-mix variability. Management expects non-GAAP gross margin to remain broadly consistent with fiscal 2026 while optical revenues ramp during the second half.

Investment is rising at the same time. GAAP research and development expense increased 118% year over year to $114.5 million in the fiscal first quarter, and Credo is committing supply ahead of future customer ramps, leaving results sensitive to deployment timing.

CRDO’s Growth Scores Back a Catalyst Watch

The 1.6T launch adds another execution milestone to Credo’s optical expansion, but the revenue impact still depends on customer ramps, product mix and spending discipline. The stock currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

CRDO has a Growth Score of B and Momentum Score of B, indicating comparatively favorable growth and momentum characteristics, while its Value Score of D and VGM Score of C are less supportive. With shares trading at 11.1X forward 12-month sales, the 1.6T ramp remains a catalyst to watch rather than a stand-alone reason to overlook execution and valuation risk.
