Trevor Payne: How a Collaborative Team Spirit Adds to Internship Experience

Taylor Payne

As the world transitions to a new normal, Nasdaq’s annual internship program is too. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have turned circumstance into a learning opportunity for interns joining us this year to participate in meaningful and long-term projects.

In the Nasdaq Futures Internship Program, we offer a variety of professional experiences for emerging talent through an immersive 10 to 12-week virtual internship program. From Stockholm to the U.S., meet few of the bright minds joining us digitally from all around the world. They are playing integral, hands-on roles to help Nasdaq #RewriteTomorrow. Today, we speak with Trevor Payne, an Internal Audit intern, here at Nasdaq.

Tell us a bit about your position and background

I have the privilege of serving as an Internal Audit intern this summer at Nasdaq. A role like this is new for me since my experience has largely been in supply chain and finance, but I am very much enjoying the opportunity to learn more about audit and risk management. In previous roles, I have worked in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Sydney, so working from home also brings the opportunity to perform in a different environment.

What is your favorite project you’ve worked on thus far, or one that you’re looking forward to?

My favorite project that I have worked on thus far has been the patch and vulnerability audit. For this audit, I have worked with the Internal Audit team to build analytics workflows that automate parts of the audit process, allowing the audits to be run continuously with greater efficiency.

What about Nasdaq has stood out to you most, now that you are a part of the global team?

What has stood out to me the most about Nasdaq is the fact that while I am surrounded by such high performers, everyone is committed to playing as a team. This has given me the chance to learn and grow more as a professional, because everyone is willing to help and share their knowledge to add value.

How is this internship supporting your goals long-term?

This internship is supporting my long-term goals by giving me exposure to not only audit and risk management, but also to technology, and how it can be used in different ways to mitigate risk and improve processes.

What is your goal as a #NasdaqFam intern?

My goal as a #NasdaqFam intern is to learn as much as possible from those around me, and take advantage of the opportunities that Nasdaq affords me to utilize business technology in new ways.

What advice would you give to future Nasdaq interns?

I would tell future Nasdaq interns to constantly ask questions and learn as much as possible. The team at Nasdaq is not only full of knowledge that can add value to anyone’s career, but they are willing to share it with you, and that is part of what makes Nasdaq a great place to work and grow.
