Top 10 list of unusual option activity

About halfway through today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Finish Line (FINL): Option volume 759 percent above average. Investors bought and sold calls in the shoe retailer after first-quarter sales missed estimates. FINL dropped 4.75 percent to $22.07.

Synovus Financial (SNV): Option volume 583 percent above average. A block of 3,890 August 2.50 puts were bought for $0.50 against existing open interest. SNV fell 3.70 percent to $2.08.

iShares MSCI Taiwan Index Fund (EWT): Option volume 548 percent above average. A block of 25,000 September 13 puts were bought for $0.20. EWT fell 1.68 percent to $14.59.

SuccessFactors (SFSF): Option volume 448 percent above average. Some 2,000 July 32 puts were bought for $1.90 to $2.65. SFSF fell 15 percent to $27.45.

Acura Pharmaceuticals (ACUR): Option volume 419 percent above average. Investors bought calls and puts after the Food & Drug Administration approved the company's Oxecta pain medicine. ACUR rose 4.53 percent to $3.90.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are:

  • Pain Therapeutics (PTIE): Option volume 339 percent above average.
  • Sanmina (SANM): Option volume 325 percent above average.
  • Blackboard (BBBB): Option volume 304 percent above average.
  • Carizo Oil & Gas (CRZO): Option volume 302 percent above average.
  • Ralcorp (RAH): Option volume 300 percent above average.
