As the world transitions to a new normal, Nasdaq’s annual internship program is too. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have turned circumstance into a learning opportunity for interns joining us this year to participate in meaningful and long-term projects.
In the Nasdaq Futures Internship Program, we offer a variety of professional experiences for emerging talent through an immersive 10 to 12-week virtual internship program. From Stockholm to the U.S., meet few of the bright minds joining us digitally from all around the world. They are playing integral, hands-on roles to help Nasdaq #RewriteTomorrow. Today, we speak with Sonali Agarwal, a student worker for IHub at Nasdaq.
Tell us a bit about your position and background
I am working as a student worker for IHub, an upcoming centralized platform for information, automation and solutions, at Nasdaq. My work in IHub is about providing tech solutions and automating manual tasks. I am an MBA (Tech) graduate with a major in finance and computer engineering.
What is your favorite project you’ve worked on thus far, or one that you’re looking forward to?
The favorite project I have worked on is “Compliance Calendar.” This project is about creating a platform for accounting users, who will get notifications regarding their tax and other obligations. I loved the project because I got to plan it from the very beginning. I also learned a lot about front-end and back-end development while developing it.
What about Nasdaq has stood out to you most, now that you are a part of the global team?
Nasdaq is all about making every employee feel that they belong. There are many things that I love at Nasdaq. The fact that I get to work at a very inclusive environment where my voice is actually heard, and where leadership is encouraged impresses me a lot. Nasdaq also takes care of its employees’ mental health, which is very important to me. There are so many other opportunities here other than work, which I can contribute to like empowering women, supporting LGBTQI+ community, developer community, etc.
How is this internship supporting your goals long-term?
My long-term goal is a little hard to explain at this moment, but I want to say that I have always wanted to work in a finance and technical field, and the projects I am getting to work on is serving that purpose. In addition to that, I have always wanted to work at a place where kindness and empathy matter. So that’s a plus one for me.
What is your goal as a #NasdaqFam intern?
As a student worker, I want to learn more and more. Right now, I am observing everyone and absorbing everything to improve my communication, leadership and technical skills. My goal is to become the best in my field and inculcate all the Nasdaq values within me.
What advice would you give to future Nasdaq interns?
I would say, never stop believing in your dreams. Mine are coming true here at Nasdaq and yours can too. The best part about Nasdaq is that you can approach anyone, and they would guide you in the best possible way, so never hesitate to ask someone for help.
