SKHY Likely to Gain From a Potential Intel Partnership: Worth a Buy?

SK hynix Inc. SKHY is likely to gain a growth lever if its discussions with Intel Corporation INTC translate into a manufacturing partnership in the United States. Although no agreement has yet been finalized, the potential collaboration could strengthen SK hynix’s U.S. production footprint, improve supply-chain resilience and put the memory giant closer to major AI and cloud customers.

Media reports indicate that SK hynix and Intel are discussing options for producing memory chips at Intel’s planned Ohio manufacturing complex. One possibility involves SK hynix leasing part of the facility, while another could involve a joint venture involving major cloud companies. SK hynix has emphasized that discussions remain exploratory and that no specific arrangement has been decided.

U.S. Manufacturing Could Strengthen SK Hynix's AI Push

A partnership with Intel could accelerate SK hynix’s localization strategy at a time when AI infrastructure spending is driving exponential demand for memory. Establishing front-end memory production in Ohio would help complement SK hynix’s growing U.S. manufacturing ecosystem rather than start it from scratch.

The company recently broke ground on its more than $4 billion Indiana facility, which is expected to begin producing next-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products in the second half of 2029. Wafers manufactured in South Korea are slated to undergo advanced packaging and testing at the Indiana site.

Access to Intel’s Ohio infrastructure could potentially broaden that strategy by adding U.S.-based memory-chip manufacturing capabilities. Such an arrangement could reduce SK hynix’s reliance on production concentrated in Asia, minimize geographic risk and create a more integrated domestic supply chain for U.S. customers.

The possibility of cloud companies participating in a broader venture could also prove beneficial for SKHY. Hyperscalers are investing heavily in AI infrastructure and require increasingly large quantities of advanced DRAM and HBM. Bringing these customers closer to the manufacturing ecosystem could provide SK hynix with better visibility into long-term demand while supporting tighter product collaboration.

Strong Memory Demand Supports Expansion

The potential Intel collaboration comes against a favorable operating backdrop. SK hynix delivered record second-quarter 2026 results as AI infrastructure investments fueled demand for high-value memory products. Revenues surged 257% year over year, while operating profit jumped 557%. The company has also established long-term agreements with around 10 key customers as it seeks to secure greater visibility into structural AI-memory demand.

SK hynix is simultaneously ramping HBM4, which offers improved performance and power efficiency for next-generation AI systems. Rising memory bandwidth requirements as AI models grow larger and more sophisticated should keep HBM and advanced DRAM at the center of data-center investment.

Against this backdrop, additional U.S. manufacturing capacity could let SK hynix scale with customers while supporting its strategy to evolve from a traditional memory supplier into a more integrated AI-memory solutions provider.

Price Performance

SKHY has gained 25.8% over the past three months against the industry’s decline of 12.6%, outperforming peers like FormFactor, Inc. FORM and ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. ASX. FORM has lost 10%, while ASX is up 5.2% over this period.

End Note

Overall, a potential Intel partnership could further strengthen SK hynix’s U.S. manufacturing strategy and support its long-term AI-memory growth ambitions. However, with discussions still at an exploratory stage, investors should watch for greater clarity on the structure, economics and timeline of any collaboration before assigning meaningful upside to the opportunity.
