Shubham Jha

As the world transitions to a new normal, Nasdaq’s annual internship program is too. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have turned circumstance into a learning opportunity for interns joining us this year to participate in meaningful and long-term projects.

In the Nasdaq Futures Internship Program, we offer a variety of professional experiences for emerging talent through an immersive 10 to 12-week virtual internship program. From Stockholm to the U.S., meet few of the bright minds joining us digitally from all around the world. They are playing integral, hands-on roles to help Nasdaq #RewriteTomorrow. Today, we speak with Shubham Jha, a Corporate IT intern based in India.

Tell us a bit about your position and background

I am Shubham Jha, and I am from India. I am here with Nasdaq as a Corporate IT intern for the Summer 2021. I am currently living in Nagpur, India, pursuing my Bachelor’s degree here in computer science and engineering with a degree of honor specializing in AWS, programming for advanced computing, full stack software development and various modern technologies. I have worked in various roles across cybersecurity and artificial intelligence industries. Apart from that, in my free time, I work with corporations in their diversity and inclusion programs.

What is your favorite project you’ve worked on thus far, or one that you’re looking forward to?

I am currently finishing up the AskCIT project. The launch target for this project was this summer, but due to support by my amazing managers, mentors and IPO partners (coworkers), I was able to finish it before schedule. I will be starting a new project, called Checkware in the coming weeks. I am happy to work on a project that is so impactful and will help all Nasdaq users in every stage. Nonetheless, I am happy to do the project with Corporate IT, a department, as #NasdaqFam says, that makes impossible things possible every single day.

What about Nasdaq has stood out to you most, now that you are a part of the global team?

Nasdaq is a place that can help accelerate your career growth. In a single month, you can learn so much about the corporate world, global teams, fintechs and corporate America. Everyone is so easily approachable, irrespective of their hierarchy in the organization. These are a few of the many things here at Nasdaq that I loved the most.

How is this internship supporting your goals long-term?

This internship is a great transition between school and career. I wanted to work in my field, and be a leader. Here at Nasdaq, I am able to do that. The tasks given to me as an intern, are not ones that “no one wants to do,” but are ones that bring great value to my team. I am always asked whether I want to work on the particular tech stack or not. I am learning communication skills by working with various global teams, management members and leaders.

What is your goal as a #NasdaqFam intern?

Basically to be part of the team. I want to meet amazing people here, learn their stories, learn from their experiences, and enjoy my time here at Nasdaq! I also want to contribute to things that create an impact to the business, which is something that Corporate IT has been doing. I also want to learn new personal and professional skills.

What advice would you give to future Nasdaq interns?

Honest work will not only be acknowledged, but rewarded as well. The proof is our CEO, who joined Nasdaq as an intern. Whenever you feel down, remember that even the best professionals started as an intern. Never miss an opportunity. And yes, enjoy your time here at Nasdaq.
