Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc.RRGB announced that it would continue to use real pumpkin in its Spiced Pumpkin Pie Shake, which enjoys enormous popularity during fall.
Since its introduction in 2013, Red Robin has been using Libby's pumpkin pie filling, vanilla soft serve, nutmeg and graham cracker crumbs in the beverage. The company will be using the same ingredients this season too for the drink to be served at its stores beginning Aug 24.
Health consciousness is increasing among the masses and the Americans are gradually refraining from food with higher calories, fat and sugars but low on vitamins, minerals and other micro-nutrients. Therefore, food companies are increasingly changing their priorities to focus more on "good for you" products. These products involve simpler processing and a higher quantity of real ingredients, so as to ensure the high nutritional quotient.
Earlier this week, Panera Bread Company PNRA announced its plan to make the Pumpkin Spice Lattes more healthy as part of its Food Policy. The Missouri -based fast casual restaurant operator will replace certain artificial preservatives with natural ones in the popular drink, which will be available at its outlets starting Sep 9.
In fact, coffee giant, Starbucks Corporation SBUX , is also removing caramel coloring, an artificial additive, from its pumpkin latte and adding real pumpkin to it, in response to consumer demand for natural ingredients instead of artificial flavors.
