OpenAI Announces an Advanced Voice Mode with Vision

OpenAI’s “12 Days” series–where the Microsoft-backed (MSFT) AI company is announcing at least one new product, service, or feature every weekday through December 20–hit Day 6 with the announcement of Advanced Voice mode with Vision, a feature first teased in May. This update allows ChatGPT to see users in real time during conversations and make interactions feel more natural, like video calling with a human.

The update also supports screen sharing by letting users show apps or messages on their phones and get instant feedback or troubleshooting advice. Adding a festive twist, OpenAI introduced a Santa voice with a British accent for December available wherever Advanced Voice mode is enabled. The demo highlighted ChatGPT’s improved memory, as it recognized names and objects in real-time, as well as guided tasks like making pour-over coffee step-by-step.

Advanced Voice with Vision combines natural conversations with powerful visual capabilities, similar to Google’s Project Astra showcased alongside Gemini 2.0. This feature cements OpenAI’s lead in AI-powered interactions by making it possible to troubleshoot, respond to messages, and explore new use cases seamlessly.
