MIRAMAR, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Kumon, the world's largest after-school math and reading enrichment program opened a new center in Miramar, located at Shoppes at SilverIsles Plaza- 16233 Miramar Pkwy. The mayor of Miramar, Lori Moseley, joined Kumon Instructor Leena Basnyet and the Chamber of Commerce of Miramar and Pembroke Pines on June 4th for the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Event.
"At Kumon, we believe children have unlimited potential to succeed," said owner, Ms. Basnyet. She adds, "Our goal is to help each child develop strong academic skills, a love of learning and the confidence to excel beyond the classroom."
Kumon's individualized approach helps children progress by ability rather than age or grade. In the U.S., 200,000 students from preschool to high school are developing advanced skills and confidence through Kumon's Method of Learning.
Ms. Basnyet holds Masters in City and Regional Studies from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and prior to opening a Kumon Center, she was a Kumon parent for five years. She believes that a strong academic foundation is essential for all students, and after witnessing the positive outcome the Kumon Method had on her own son, she was inspired to open a center.
The Kumon Math & Reading Center of Miramar is open Monday and Thursday from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. Students attend half-hour sessions per subject. For more information, or to schedule a free placement test, please call 954-399-5582.
Despite the slowdown in the economy, the tutoring business is growing at a rate of more than five percent a year according to the Education Industry Association. In addition, supplemental education continues to be the fastest-growing franchise industry, and Entrepreneur magazine's annual Top 500 ranking of franchises ranked Kumon as the No. 1 franchise in the United States for the tenth consecutive year. The ranking is considered the best and most comprehensive franchise ranking.
