Lean hog futures are up 22 to 97 cents on Wednesday. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $83.87 on Wednesday morning, up 53 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $82.11 on January 27, up 17 cents from the previous day.
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was $1.50 higher in the Wednesday AM report at $94.36 per cwt. The rib primal was the only reported lower, with the belly leading the way higher, up $6.75. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was at 489,000 head, with the week to date total at 972,000 head. That is 68,000 head above last week but down 10,160 head from the same week last year.
