Do Americans Really Drink 325 Million Gallons of Beer on Super Bowl Sunday?

In your opinion, what's the most important part of Super Bowl Sunday? Is it the game, the commercials, the halftime show, the food and the alcohol, the general sense of camaraderie?

For me, it's definitely the halftime show--#ready for Lady Gaga-and the commercials if my favorite team didn't make to the Big Game, and a lot of people are in agreement. Some even plan out their bathroom breaks during the football action so they don't miss any of the commercials. But for many others, the game is the highlight of the evening, and this year, the Atlanta Falcons take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51.

Americans obviously need good food and drinks to watch the Super Bowl with, and beyond the insane food stats that Men's Fitnesspublished last year-apparently this country consumes 120 pounds of avocados and 1.2 billion chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday-about 325 million gallons of beer are drunk to wash all that down.

That's right. 325. Million. Gallons. Of. Ice. Cold. American. Beer. Now, this would mean that every man, woman, and child in the U.S. would have to drink more than a gallon of beer, which equates to 128 ounces, or about 10 cans, notes Men's Fitness . Again, that's insane, and hard to believe it's true.

But what isn't hard to believe is the popularity of domestic beer brands on Super Bowl Sunday, like Bud Lite, Coors Lite, Budweiser, and Miller Lite, all owned by brewing behemoths Anheuser-Busch InBev BUD and Molson Coors TAP . American brands usually make up 94% of the beer slugged on game day. Even though craft beers gave surged in popularity in recent years, with early projections eyeing almost 14% market share in 2017, domestic beer is still the number one choice for the Super Bowl.

If you plan on indulging this Sunday, please drink responsibly, and I think it goes without saying don't drink a gallon of beer. Just don't do it. Bud Light doesn't taste that great anyways.
