Can 10% Core Growth Keep Thomson Reuters' Momentum Intact?

Thomson Reuters TRI is increasingly dependent on its three core professional businesses to shape its growth trajectory. That dependence currently looks favorable. Legal Professionals, Corporates and Tax, and Audit & Accounting Professionals collectively generated 10% organic growth in the second quarter of 2026 and represented 83% of total revenues, making their performance more important than the companywide 9% reported revenue increase.

Core Growth Strengthens TRI’s Revenue Quality

The significance of the “Big 3” lies not only in their growth rate but also in their scale. Legal Professionals delivered 10% organic growth, Corporates expanded 10%, while Tax, Audit & Accounting Professionals advanced 8%.

With these businesses accounting for more than four-fifths of revenues, sustained expansion should increasingly determine Thomson Reuters’ overall growth profile. The 9% increase in organic recurring revenues is equally important because a larger recurring-revenue base can provide greater visibility and reduce dependence on transactional demand.

That combination leaves TRI with a relatively supportive near-term setup: its largest businesses are growing faster than the company as a whole, while recurring revenues continue to expand.

Can the Big 3 Sustain the Momentum?

The longer-term question is whether Thomson Reuters can maintain high-single-digit to double-digit organic growth across these businesses as their revenue base becomes larger. Continued demand for legal, tax, accounting and corporate workflow solutions would help maintain momentum, particularly as professional customers increasingly rely on technology-enabled information and productivity tools.

Reuters and Global Print are unlikely to provide comparable growth support. Reuters posted 4% organic growth, while Global Print declined 3%. Consequently, future acceleration will likely depend disproportionately on the Big 3.

For investors, this makes segment mix a key metric to watch. If the core businesses can sustain their current organic growth while recurring revenues keep expanding, Thomson Reuters could preserve a stronger and more predictable top-line profile. A slowdown across these segments, however, would have an increasingly visible effect given their dominant revenue contribution.

How Do Two US-Listed Peers Compare?

RELX PLC RELX remains a relevant peer because its LexisNexis operations compete in professional information, legal research and workflow solutions. RELX PLC continues to emphasize analytics and digital tools that deepen customer engagement and recurring revenues. Continued technology investment at RELX PLC keeps competitive pressure high across professional-information markets.

FactSet Research Systems FDS offers another comparison through its subscription-based financial data and analytics platform. FactSet Research Systems benefits from recurring client relationships and workflow integration across investment professionals. Continued product development at FactSet Research Systems underscores the broader industry shift toward data-rich, technology-enabled professional platforms.
