Home trends change fast. What was in demand one year might be out of style the next. If you’re looking to sell your home in the coming year, you might want to try to incorporate some of the features buyers will be wanting most to help you secure top dollar.

To predict the home features that will be most desirable in 2025, Zillow identified popular home features and design styles mentioned in millions of for-sale listings over the past year, then identified the keywords showing up far more frequently compared to a year ago.

Based on Zillow’s analysis, these are the features buyers will want most in 2025.

Electric Features

Environmentally friendly features are becoming more popular with buyers. According to the Zillow analysis, mentions of whole-home batteries have increased by 62% since last year, electric vehicle chargers are appearing in 34% more for-sale listings, solar panels are appearing 18% more often and mentions of induction cooktops are up 5%.

Coziness

“Cozy” had long been considered a euphemism for “small” in the context of real estate listings, but this is a feature buyers increasingly seek, perhaps as an antidote to the ultra-modern open floor plan spaces that have become popular in recent years.

Listings mentioning “cozy” have increased by 35% compared to last year, the Zillow analysis found.

Old-World Details

Once again there are signs that ultra-modern homes are on their way out. Home libraries are showing up 22% more frequently in listings on Zillow, mentions of “nostalgia” are up 14% and “vintage” mentions are up by 9%. In addition, second kitchens or back kitchens — a trend that dates back to the Victorian era — are appearing in 8% more listings today than a year ago.

Climate Protection

As natural disasters become increasingly common, homebuyers are seeking more protections for their homes.

The share of for-sale listings that mention flood barriers is up 22% compared to last year, seismic retrofitting is up 20%, references to water catchment systems are up 19% and mentions of drought-resistant turf yards are up 14%.

Wet Rooms

A standard bathroom might not be enough for discerning buyers in 2025. Wet rooms — which combine the shower and bathtub into one waterproof space without the a shower curb or enclosure — are being featured 19% more often in listings on Zillow.
