CES 2018 is right around the corner, and as evidenced at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the lines between tech show and auto show are being blurred.

[ibd-display-video id=2995643 width=50 float=left autostart=true] Ford ( F ) CEO Jim Hackett has been given the honor of being a keynote speaker at the massive CES tech convention in Las Vegas this January. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz was just one automaker at the L.A. Auto Show this week that said there are more announcements to come from the brand while at CES.

But as electric engines and self-driving features increasingly become the focus for automakers, other big car names are likely holding onto tech-focused news for CES as well.

Aside from Ford and Mercedes parent Daimler ( DDAIF ), other high-profile auto-related companies expected to make a showing at CES are Nissan ( NSANY ), Fiat Chrysler ( FCAU ), Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Intel (INTC)-owned Mobileye.

Another reason why CES is looking more like an auto show? It's already being called an auto show. The Vegas showcase was named among USA Today's 10 Best Automotive Shows.

On the CES website, the automotive events and exhibits are being pitched as "a turbocharged Detroit when it comes to vehicle technology."

Detroit's auto show, the North American International Auto Show, was once considered the premier venue for automakers. But the event falls right after CES on the calendar - turning the show into little more than a beauty pageant.
