Report of an emergency meeting

Belgian region Wallonia blocked the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the EU and leaders are now desperately trying to salvage it.

Reuters now reports, citing an unnamed EU source, that an emergency envoys meeting has been called for 1800 GMT (in less than 3 hours) to seek a resolution.

Belgium can't approve the deal unless all the regions are on board and Wallonia late yesterday said it won't proceed. That will force Belgium to miss Friday's ratification deadline.
